Valero loses $489 million on shutdown costs
Valero Energy Corp swung to a third-quarter loss of nearly a half-billion dollars as the nation's
biggest independent refiner took a $477 million impairment to shutter a part of its massive
Delaware City operation and saw its margins squeezed by an oversupply of gasoline and other fuels.
